The SOS feature:
- ❌ Does NOT contact 911 or emergency services
- ❌ Does NOT contact hospitals, ambulances, police, or fire departments
- ❌ Does NOT guarantee notification delivery
- ❌ Does NOT have professional monitoring staff
FOR LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCIES, ALWAYS CALL 911 DIRECTLY.
Do not rely solely on myCARI's SOS feature for emergency response.

Oura Ring Integration
Compatible Devices: Oura Ring Gen 3, Oura Ring Gen 4
The Oura Ring syncs with Apple Health, which means all of its health data flows into myCARI automatically. Oura tracks heart rate, HRV, body temperature, blood oxygen (SpO2), sleep, and activity — all of which appear in myCARI once connected.
What Oura Ring Data Appears in myCARI
- Heart rate and resting heart rate
- Heart rate variability (HRV)
- Body temperature trends
- Blood oxygen (SpO2)
- Sleep stages and duration
- Activity and step counts
Setup Instructions
- Download the Oura app from the App Store, sign in to your Oura account, and pair your ring via Bluetooth
- Connect Oura to Apple Health: Open the Oura app → Menu (☰) → Settings → Apple Health → Toggle ON all health categories you want to share (Heart Rate, Blood Oxygen, Body Temperature, Sleep, Workouts, etc.)
- Grant myCARI access: Go to iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → myCARI → Toggle ON: Heart Rate, Blood Oxygen, Body Temperature, Sleep Analysis, and any other categories

Tip: Both Apple Watch and Oura Ring can sync data simultaneously through Apple Health. myCARI will display data from all connected sources.
Important Warnings
Apple Health Data Source
Apple Health data syncs from YOUR iPhone only. When myCARI imports health data from Apple Health, it reads from the iPhone where the app is installed:
- You can only sync health data from YOUR iPhone's Apple Health
- Family members cannot sync their Apple Health data through your device
- Each person needs myCARI installed on their own iPhone to sync their health data
Sharing with Care Team: Once your Apple Health data is synced to myCARI, you CAN share your vitals with care team members. If you've granted vitals permissions to a family member or caregiver, they will be able to view your synced health data in the app.
Cross-Device Warning: Apple Health Data Belongs to the Device Owner
If you sign into myCARI on a different device (iPhone or iPad) that belongs to someone else or uses a different Apple ID:
- Apple Health data on that device belongs to the device owner, NOT you
- Steps, heart rate, workouts, sleep, and other Apple Health data will be from the device owner's Apple Health
- This data will appear in myCARI as if it were yours, which can lead to incorrect health tracking
- Your medications, appointments, goals, and manually-entered data WILL sync correctly (stored in your myCARI account)
Best Practice:
- Only use myCARI on devices where YOU are signed into Apple Health with YOUR Apple ID
- If borrowing a device temporarily, do NOT enable Apple Health sync
- For accurate health tracking, use your own iPhone with your own Apple ID
What syncs from your myCARI account (works on any device):
- Medications and schedules
- Appointments
- Medical records (FHIR imports)
- AI Health Coach goals and progress
- Care team connections
- Profile information
What comes from the device's Apple Health (device-specific):
- Steps and distance
- Heart rate
- Workouts
- Sleep data
- Weight (if from smart scale)
- Blood pressure (if from connected device)
- Blood glucose (if from CGM)
Medical Records Re-Authentication
If you sign into myCARI on a new device, you will need to re-authenticate with Epic MyChart to access your medical records. This is a security feature — MyChart (FHIR) connections are tied to your login session and are not automatically transferred.
What to do on a new device:
- Sign into myCARI with your account
- Go to Health → Medical Records
- Tap Connect to MyChart (or Reconnect)
- Log into your hospital's MyChart portal
- Authorize myCARI to access your records
- Wait for the sync to complete
Your medical records are NOT lost — they remain stored in your myCARI account. The re-authentication simply re-establishes the secure connection to fetch updates from your healthcare provider.
Medication Reminders
- Medication reminders work through your iPhone's notification system
- Ensure Do Not Disturb is configured to allow myCARI notifications
- Verify that myCARI has permission to send notifications in Settings → myCARI → Notifications
Emergency Features
- Fall Detection requires Apple Watch with myCARI Watch app installed
- Emergency SOS requires cellular or Wi-Fi connection to alert contacts
- Location Sharing requires Location Services to be enabled
- Test emergency features with your care team before relying on them

Two Ways to Track Vitals
1. Automatic Logging (Recommended)
Data flows automatically from your devices → Apple Health → myCARI
- No manual entry needed once set up
- Works with Apple Watch, Bluetooth BP monitors, CGMs, smart scales, smart thermometers
2. Manual Logging
Enter readings directly in myCARI
- Best for traditional devices without Bluetooth
- Useful for occasional readings
How Data Flows (Automatic)
myCARI does NOT connect directly to Bluetooth devices. Instead, your device's companion app sends data to Apple Health, and myCARI reads from Apple Health. This means you need to:
- Set up your device with its manufacturer's app
- Connect that app to Apple Health
- Grant myCARI permission to read from Apple Health
Connecting Health Devices

Troubleshooting Device Sync
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| Readings not appearing in myCARI | Open the device's app first — some only sync when their app is open |
| Readings in Apple Health but not myCARI | Check Settings → Privacy → Health → myCARI and ensure the vital type is toggled ON |
| Duplicate readings | Ensure only ONE app writes to Apple Health for each vital type |
| Old readings missing | myCARI imports the last 30 days on initial sync. Older data may not import. |
| CGM gaps | Libre requires scanning; Dexcom should sync automatically every 5 minutes |
| Device not pairing | Restart your iPhone and the device, then try again. Check Bluetooth is ON. |
Understanding Your Vitals Charts
| Indicator | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green zone | Within your healthy target range |
| Yellow zone | Slightly outside normal — monitor closely |
| Red zone | Consult your healthcare provider |
| Trend arrows | ↑ Rising trend, ↓ Declining trend over time |
| Average line | Your average reading over the selected period |
Customizing Your Health Summary
The Health Summary card on your Health screen displays your two most important vitals at a glance. You can customize which vitals appear.
- Go to the Health tab
- Find the Health Summary card at the top
- Tap the slider icon next to the chevron
- Select your Primary Vital and Secondary Vital
- Tap Done
For Care Team Members: When you view a patient's health data, the Health Summary shows the vitals they have chosen to display — not your own preferences. Care team members cannot change which vitals appear in a patient's Health Summary.
Request Support for Other Devices
Have a device that connects to its own app and writes to Apple Health, but myCARI doesn't display that data type? Contact support@mlpipes.ai with the device name, which vital it measures, and a screenshot from Apple Health. We regularly add support for new vital types based on user requests.

To change your daily hydration goal: tap the gear icon in Wellness settings → Daily Hydration Goal → enter your target → Save.
Stress Level Tracking
The Stress Level card provides insight into your body's stress response by analyzing Apple Watch data and sleep patterns. myCARI calculates your stress score (0–100) using three key indicators:
- Heart Rate Variability (HRV) — Lower HRV often indicates higher stress
- Resting Heart Rate — Elevated resting HR can signal stress
- Sleep Efficiency — Poor sleep affects stress resilience
| Score | Category | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| 0–25 | Low | Your body is recovering well. Good stress resilience. |
| 26–50 | Moderate | Manageable stress levels. Consider short breaks. |
| 51–75 | Elevated | Signs of strain. A walk or breathing exercise may help. |
| 76–100 | High | Elevated stress indicators. Prioritize rest when possible. |
Note: Apple Watch is required for HRV and resting heart rate data. The Stress Level feature provides wellness insights and is not a medical diagnostic tool.
Safety Features
⚠️ IMPORTANT: SOS Feature Limitations
READ THIS BEFORE USING SOS: myCARI's SOS feature is a communication tool ONLY. It is designed to notify your personally designated care team members when you need assistance.
- ❌ Does NOT call 911 or any emergency services
- ❌ Does NOT contact hospitals, ambulances, police, or fire departments
- ❌ Does NOT have professional monitoring or dispatch services
- ❌ Does NOT guarantee notification delivery or care team response
FOR LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCIES, ALWAYS CALL 911 DIRECTLY.
What SOS Does:
- Sends push notifications to your designated emergency contacts (care team members)
- Includes your location (if location sharing is enabled)
- Shows alert with loud notification sound on their devices
- Provides quick actions for contacts to respond
Emergency SOS
To trigger Emergency SOS:
- Press and hold the SOS button for 3 seconds
- A countdown will appear
- Release to send alert OR keep holding to cancel
- Your care team members will be notified (NOT emergency services)
Emergency Contacts
Emergency contacts must be members of your care team. They must have myCARI installed and notification permissions enabled.
Setting Up Emergency Contacts:
- Go to Safety tab (or Dashboard in Care Mode)
- Tap Emergency Contacts
- Tap the + button to add a contact
- Select a care team member from the list
- Optionally toggle "Set as Primary Contact"
- Tap Add Emergency Contact
Primary Emergency Contact: One contact should be designated as primary (indicated with a star icon). To change your primary contact, swipe right on any contact and tap "Set Primary".
Tip: You can designate someone as an emergency contact during the invitation process by toggling "Add as Emergency Contact" before sending.
Notification Delivery Limitations
SOS notifications may fail to deliver or be delayed due to:
- Poor cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity
- Recipient's device being off, in Do Not Disturb mode, or out of battery
- Notification settings on recipient's device
- App not installed on recipient's device
- Server or network outages
MLPipes LLC cannot guarantee delivery of any notifications.
Testing Your Emergency Contacts
Before relying on SOS, verify your emergency contacts can receive alerts:
- Check their status in Safety → Emergency Contacts (look for the blue "Care Team Member" indicator)
- Have each contact verify: myCARI installed, notification permissions on, app opened recently, DND doesn't block myCARI
- Consider a test (with their knowledge): trigger SOS, cancel immediately within 3 seconds, ask if they received a notification
Note: There is no "test alert" feature. Coordinate with your emergency contacts before testing.
Fall Detection (Apple Watch)
⚠️ Important Fall Detection Limitations
- Fall detection alerts go to your care team members ONLY—NOT to 911 or emergency services
- Detection is not 100% accurate—some falls may not be detected, and some non-falls may trigger alerts
- Alerts may fail to deliver due to network or device issues
- MLPipes LLC does not monitor fall detection alerts
- This feature is not a substitute for professional medical alert systems
Important: Fall detection is NOT automatic. You must manually start Safety Monitoring on your Apple Watch each time you want protection.
How to Start Fall Detection:
- Open the myCARI app on your Apple Watch
- Tap Start Safety Monitoring
- The myCARI logo appears on your watch face indicating protection is active
- Fall detection is now active continuously in the background
When a Fall is Detected:
- Both your Watch and iPhone show an alert with a countdown
- Tap I'm OK to cancel the alert (on either device)
- Tap Get Help to immediately notify emergency contacts
- If no response within the countdown, emergency contacts are automatically alerted with your location
Responding from iPhone: Long-press or swipe down on the notification to reveal action buttons. Tap I'm OK to cancel without opening the app.
Battery & Stopping
Safety Monitoring uses additional battery because it runs a background workout session. Typical usage: 10–15% additional battery drain. Ensure your Watch is fully charged in the morning for all-day protection.
To stop: open the myCARI app on your Watch and tap Stop Monitoring.
Note: This is separate from Apple's built-in fall detection. myCARI's fall detection works alongside Apple's and provides additional alerting to your emergency contacts through the myCARI app.
Gait Analysis
In addition to fall detection, myCARI offers Gait Analysis which tracks your walking patterns over time using Apple Health data. This helps identify gradual changes in mobility that may indicate increased fall risk. Find this in Safety → Gait Trends.
Location Sharing
Optional feature that shares your location with care team members.
- Go to Safety → Location Sharing
- Toggle ON
- Choose who can see your location
- Set schedule (always, or during specific hours)
Watch Emergency SOS
From the myCARI Watch app, you can also trigger an emergency SOS directly from your wrist by tapping the SOS button and holding for 3 seconds.
Hospital Mode (Medical Records Sync)
When you or a loved one is hospitalized, Hospital Mode increases the frequency of medical record syncing so your care team can stay informed about new lab results, progress notes, and other clinical updates.
| Feature | Normal Mode | Hospital Mode |
|---|---|---|
| FHIR sync frequency | Every 24 hours | Every 4 hours |
| New record notifications | Daily digest | Real-time per record |
| Default duration | N/A | 7 days |
| Extension options | N/A | 7 or 14 days |
How to Enable Hospital Mode:
Option 1: "I'm Being Admitted" Quick Action
- Go to Safety tab (or Dashboard)
- Tap "I'm Being Admitted"
- Optionally enter the hospital name and reason
- Tap "Notify Care Team"
Option 2: Any care team member can enable it from the patient's profile → Settings → Hospital Mode → Toggle ON.
Expiry: Hospital Mode automatically disables after 7 days. All care team members receive a warning at Day 5, and can extend by 7 or 14 days.
Note: Hospital Mode only affects medical record sync (FHIR/MyChart data). You must have at least one healthcare provider connected for Hospital Mode to be useful.

Once you've been added to someone's care team, you can view their health data and help manage their wellness based on the permissions they've granted you.
Switching to Patient View
- Look for the Account Switcher icon in the top-right corner
- Tap it to see a list of people you care for
- Tap on the person's name to switch to their data
- A blue banner appears at the top showing whose data you're viewing
- To return to your own account, tap the Account Switcher and select "My Account"
What You Can See

Logging Data for Patient
If you have Full View or Professional permission, you can log health data on behalf of the patient — including medication doses, meals, hydration, vitals, sleep, and workouts. All entries are logged with your name for compliance.
Important Notes for Care Team Members:
- All your actions are logged for HIPAA compliance and audit purposes
- The patient can see who logged data on their behalf
- Medical records (from MyChart/Epic) are shared by the patient — you don't need a separate MyChart login
- If you can't see certain data, ask the patient to update your permission level
- To leave a care team, go to Profile → Care Team and tap Leave Care Team
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Account Issues
I didn't receive the verification email
- Check Spam/Junk folders
- Search for "carihealth" in your email
- Add verify@mlpipes.ai to contacts
- Wait 2 minutes, then tap "Resend Email"
I forgot my password
Tap "Forgot Password?" on the login screen, enter your email, and check for a reset link.
Password reset doesn't work for Apple/Google accounts
If you created your account using Sign in with Apple or Continue with Google, the "Forgot Password" feature will not work. myCARI does not store a separate password for these accounts.
- Apple Sign-In: Use the "Sign in with Apple" button. Reset your Apple ID password at iforgot.apple.com
- Google Sign-In: Use the "Continue with Google" button. Reset your Google password at accounts.google.com/signin/recovery
I can't log in with Apple Sign-In
- Ensure you're using the same Apple ID you registered with
- Check Settings → Apple ID → Sign-In & Security
- Try signing out of Apple ID and back in
- Contact support if problem persists
"Please use a valid email address" error during signup
This happens when:
- Disposable/temporary email addresses (Mailinator, TempMail, etc.) are not allowed
- Email domain doesn't exist — could be a typo (e.g., "gmial.com" instead of "gmail.com")
- Typo in email address — double-check your email carefully
Use a permanent email address from Gmail, iCloud, Outlook, Yahoo, or your work/school email. Or use Sign in with Apple or Google to bypass manual email entry.
Signing Out of myCARI
myCARI offers two sign-out options in Profile (or Me in Care Mode):
- Sign Out — Your credentials are saved for quick sign-in with Face ID next time. Best for your personal iPhone.
- Sign Out & Clear All Data — Removes all saved login credentials from the device. Best for shared devices, selling your phone, or privacy concerns.
Neither option deletes your account or health data from the server. Your data remains safe and accessible when you sign back in.
Apple Health & Data Sync
Apple Health data isn't syncing
- Go to iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Health
- Find myCARI and ensure all data types are ON
- Force close and reopen myCARI
- Wait a few minutes for sync to complete
Why can't I see my family member's Apple Health data?
Apple Health data is device-specific. Each person needs myCARI on their own iPhone. However, if they add you to their care team with vitals permissions, you CAN view their synced data in myCARI.
Apple Watch workouts aren't appearing
- Ensure Apple Watch is paired with your iPhone
- Check that workouts are syncing to iPhone Health app first
- Open myCARI and pull down to refresh
- Wait up to 15 minutes for new workouts to appear
Medication Reminders
I'm not getting reminders
- Check notification permissions: Settings → myCARI → Notifications → Allow Notifications = ON
- Check Do Not Disturb: Settings → Focus → Do Not Disturb → Apps → Add myCARI
- Verify reminder is set: Health → Medications → [Your Medication] → check reminder times
- Restart your iPhone
Reminders are coming at wrong times
- Health → Medications → [Your Medication]
- Tap Edit
- Adjust reminder times
- Check your iPhone timezone (Settings → General → Date & Time)
Notifications
I can't tell which notification is which
If your myCARI notifications appear as generic banners without showing the message content, your iPhone's notification preview setting may be turned off.
How to enable notification previews:
- Open iPhone Settings
- Tap Notifications
- Tap Show Previews (at the top)
- Select Always or When Unlocked
Recommended: "When Unlocked" balances convenience with privacy. Choose "Always" if you want to see details at a glance.
I want previews for myCARI only
- Open iPhone Settings
- Tap Notifications
- Scroll down and tap myCARI
- Tap Show Previews
- Select Always or When Unlocked
This overrides the global setting for myCARI only.
Medical Records (FHIR)
Can't find my healthcare provider in search
- Try different search terms (health system name, hospital name, clinic name)
- Check for name changes (e.g., NorthShore → Endeavor Health)
- Search the parent organization — small clinics may be listed under their parent health system
- Tap "Request [provider name]" to submit a request to add them
- Currently Epic MyChart only — other EHR systems coming soon
"Connection Failed" error
Verify your MyChart credentials, check if your hospital uses Epic MyChart, and try again in 5-10 minutes.
Care Team Issues
My invitation wasn't received
- Verify you entered the correct email address
- Ask them to check Spam/Junk folders
- Resend the invitation
- Try using the QR code method instead
Why can't I add anyone as an emergency contact?
Emergency contacts must be care team members. First invite them to your care team (Profile → Care Team → Invite), wait for them to accept, then go to Safety → Emergency Contacts and add them.
Tip: You can designate someone as an emergency contact during the invitation process by toggling "Add as Emergency Contact" before sending.
I can't see my family member's data
- Confirm you accepted their invitation
- Check which permission level you have
- Ask them to verify your permissions in their app
- Some data (like location) requires additional opt-in
Account switcher isn't showing
- You need to be part of at least one care team
- Accept pending invitations first
- Account switcher appears in top-right corner
- Pull down to refresh if recently added
App Performance
App is running slowly
- Force close and reopen myCARI
- Restart your iPhone
- Check for app updates in App Store
- Free up storage (Settings → General → iPhone Storage)
- Disable Low Power Mode while using health features
App keeps crashing
- Update to the latest version
- Restart your iPhone
- Delete and reinstall myCARI (your data is saved in the cloud)
- Contact support if problem continues
Battery drain concerns
myCARI uses Location Services (if enabled for Safety features), Background App Refresh (for health data sync), and Apple Health integration.
To reduce battery usage: disable Location Sharing when not needed and reduce background refresh frequency in Settings.
